Our Archives
The archives we hold are largely thanks to a local lady who spent her whole life in Paddock Wood. Pat (Patricia) Dadson was formerly known as Pat Poile. Her first husband Graham, a popular local postman and keen photographer, tragically died young. Pat carefully kept photos and documents including those she was given by people for safe keeping and became very well known for putting on exhibitions and helping others by sharing her knowledge. All this included information passed on from Jack Walker who was the first person to write a history of Paddock Wood.
Jack was a Councillor who served on the first Parish Council for Paddock Wood in 1955. Later another councillor, Elizabeth Thomas set up a History Research group with a grant from the Borough Council and Pat was a member of the group. When Pat died her archive was passed to Sarah Hamilton whose family in Paddock Wood dates from the 1800s. In line with Pat’s wishes Sarah has worked with others to preserve the valuable information and protect the unique heritage of this special area.
With help from many local people and the support of Pat’s family, the concept of Heritage Paddock Wood was born. There are sections to link to the areas around Paddock Wood and connect with local groups and resources. At time of writing (May 2024) sections of the site outside of Paddock Wood are still under construction. We hope you enjoy your visit and follow its development.
