Ringden Avenue & The Prefabs

Ringden Avenue

This beautifully spacious residential area, seen here without cars and bollards, is probably the only part of the ambitious post war plan for Paddock Wood that was built. The original 1940s document which was rescued from the Town Council offices after a flood, can be found in Tunbridge Wells Museum. It has been copied digitally. Paddock Wood was planned to be one of the satellite towns around London and, even then, a population of 10,000 was envisaged to support a town centre. It was a masterplan which arguably might have been preferable to the piecemeal approach of subsequent years!
